Preparing Your Defense against Drug Trafficking Charges

When you face drug related criminal charges, what do you do? The first, and most important thing, is to get a legal practitioner for your defense. Drug trafficking is a serious issue in the US, and you had better prepare a strong defense strategy if this is the charge the prosecution is trying to bring against you.

Any drug trafficking offense conviction brings with it serious penalties. Even for trafficking charge of a Schedule V drug, like opium or codeine preparations, you may go to jail for up to a year and have to pay a fine of $100,000. If it is a Schedule I drug, like cocaine or LSD, you may face up to 40 years in jail and $5 million as fines.

The amount and type of drug involved and the area and target of distribution are determining factors in such criminal cases. If you are facing any such charges, you need immediate help from a competent Columbia defense attorney. Only timely and efficient legal; defense may be able to save you from serving jail time and paying hefty fines.

Your attorney is the best judge of which defense strategy would suit your case. There are two categories of defenses you may use – 1) say that you did not do it; or 2) say that you did it but your conduct should be excused for a particular reason.
